Manual boom gates are quite commonly used for added vehicular security. They are quite commonly found at recreation services, football ovals and school grounds.
Although the majority of boom gates are automated, in this application a good quality steel, manual boom gate is an excellent option to create security. Due to these boom gates generally only being opened once in the morning and then shut at night, there is no need to spend the additional money on automating these systems.
Typically these manual booms are swinging boom gates, where the boom arm ( and curtain in some cases) swing in or out of the premises. The drawback to this type of boom is that it does require a wide keep clear zone.
Alternatively, you can get a manual vertical boom gate which, depending on size, can be counterweighted to allow lifting it up and down very easy. The vertical boom gate is generally not as solid as what a sliding boom gate is, so it is generally used more for access than security.
